Mike Wazowski of Monsters Inc.

---

Mike is one of the lead characters in another Pixar animation, Monsters, Inc.

As Wikipedia puts it, the story takes place in Monstropolis, a city populated entirely by monsters. Monstropolis is not part of the human world, but it can be connected to children's bedrooms through their closet doors. When a door is properly activated, it becomes a portal between the monster world and the human world. The city's power supply is provided by Monsters, Inc., a utility company that employs monsters to scare children and extract energy from their screams. The company has a huge warehouse full of doors, work areas called "scare floors" where the doors are activated, and a special training room in which employees practice their scare skills. The company's best scarer is James "Sulley" Sullivan, whose assistant is his best friend, Michael "Mike" Wazowski.

Mike plays a very supportive, frank, energetic, funny and practical best friend and assistant of Sully. There is never a part in the movie where he feels inferior of Sully's status. He is one optimistic one-eyed monster. ^^,

Like this one: The tandem luckily become part of their company's new TV commercial. Who is jumping out of excitement and thrill? None other than Mike. Sully is already having much publicity and fame because of his "Best Scarer" status. Sully is one humble monster. He doesn't put his popularity in his head. As for Mike, it's understandable why he is so freaking thrilled about this. He isn't that famous. As the green monster excitedly awaits his TV appearance, the TV flashes this:

Who wouldn't be disappointed when your face gets covered by a company logo in your first ever TV appearance?!

....It's Mike Wazowski! I feel bad for him like Sully (look at Sully's face) because Mike seems about to cry after seeing the commercial when suddenly he starts jumping and hurraying and exclaiming, "I'm on TV!!!"

Next, after all the adventures of saving the company and the very cute toddler Boo, "scarers" become "laughers" as they shifted from collecting screams to collecting laughters which more effectively generate the whole Monstropolis and much better let children sleep at night. Popularity comes next and the tandem get the chance of being a magazine cover this time. Celia Mae, Mike's lover and the company's receptionist, calls his attention about the magazine and then he sees this:

Who wouldn't be disappointed when your face gets covered by a bar code in your first ever magazine cover?! Yeah, he is the one...

Celia Mae and I have the same reaction -- feeling sorry and supportive for Mike. But do we have to? Mike doesn't care about any damn bar code. All he has to say is, "I can't believe it. I am in the cover of a magazine!!!!!!!"

Sully is a warm-hearted monster. Boo is such an adorable kid. But Mike is my favorite among them. Talk about optimism....from a one-eyed monster. ^^,

Perplexed

"In life, there are two choices -- to move forward or stagnate. Let go of the things that can no longer be fixed. If you force to try to put them back, things will only get worse. Holding on is being brave, but sometimes moving on makes you even tougher."

In The Dead of Night

---
If you were asked what your favorite time of the day is, what would you answer?

MIDNIGHT.

Darkness caresses me these past few weeks along with the still silence during such hours . Her presence confronts and comforts me from my chaotic mind. She lets me be me. She isn't disturbed by my weird silence nor my glottal cries. She met my blank stares. I weep, whimper, sob. She listened. She is there and always comes back. Why is it just that she needs to be gone too soon?

Why can't they...she....cannot give me the time of day?

Wemmicks -- The Small Wooden People

---
If dots are overwhelming, so as the stars.

The Wemmicks were small wooden people. Each of the wooden people was carved by a woodworker named Eli. His workshop sat on a hill overlooking their village. Every Wemmick was different. Some had big noses, others had large eyes. Some were tall and others were short. Some wore hats, others wore coats. But all were made by the same carver and all lived in the village.

And all day, every day, the Wemmicks did the same thing: They gave each other stickers. Each Wemmick had a box of golden star stickers and a box of gray dot stickers. Up and down the streets all over the city, people could be seen sticking stars or dots on one another. The pretty ones, those with smooth wood and fine paint, always got stars. But if the wood was rough or the paint chipped, the Wemmicks gave dots. The talented ones got stars, too.. Some could lift big sticks high above their heads or jump over tall boxes. Still others knew big words or could sing very pretty songs. Everyone gave them stars.

Some Wemmicks had stars all over them! Every time they got a star it made them feel so good that they did something else and got another star. Others, though, could do little. They got dots. Punchinello was one of these. He tried to jump high like the others, but he always fell. And when he fell, the others would gather around and give him dots. Sometimes when he fell, it would scar his wood, so the people would give him more dots. He would try to explain why he fell and say something silly, and the Wemmicks would give him more dots.

After a while he had so many dots that he didn't want to go outside. He was afriad he would do something dumb such as forget his hat or step in the water, and then people would give him another dot. In fact, he had so many gray dots that some people would come up and give him one without reason. "He deserves lots of dots," the wooden people would agree with one another. "He's not a good wooden person." After a while Punchinello believed them. "I'm not a good wemmick," he would say.

The few times he went outside, he hung around other Wemmicks who had a lot of dots. He felt better around them. One day he met a Wemmick who was unlike any he'd ever met. She had no dots or stars. She was just wooden. Her name was Lulia. It wasn't that people didn't try to give her stickers; it's just that the stickers didn't stick. Some admired Lulia for having no dots, so they would run up and give her a star. But it would fall off. Some would look down on her for having no stars, so they would give her a dot. But it wouldn't stay either.

'That's the way I want to be’, thought Punchinello. 'I don't want anyone's marks.' So he asked the stickerless Wemmick how she did it. "It's easy," Lulia replied. Read more.

Barangay Election

---
On the spot. Sa mismong araw ng botohan ako nag-isip ng mga iboboto ko nitong Lunes para sa posisyon ng kapitan at mga kagawad. Sa tulong ni ate, nakumpleto din ang listahan. Hindi na sana ako boboto (tsk. tsk. not good). May mangyayari kayang kaaya-aya sa barangay o sa looban man lang namin? Hmmmmm. Malaman.

STOIC

---
Someone is seemingly indifferent to or unaffected by joy, grief, pleasure, or pain.

Are you stoic? Am I stoic? I guess. Haha! Talk about pessimism, melancholy and drama. Give vent to one's emotions. Or else...

...or else one will turn stoic. If not, eruptive and destructive.

A stoic person may not have any idea how to unburden himself of a strong pent-up emotion. Hence, the attitude. Maybe that person just wanted someone who attentively listens and genuinely cares and wisely counsels without judgment, accusations, indifference, disregard or belittlement. That person is perhaps so fearful of what and how to unburden worrying about things that aren't yet happening, that is, rejection, blame, mockery. He just wants to be understood and being misunderstood can be his worst fear. Expressing himself, including both positive and negative things, is a struggle. This person must have gathered all his strength and faced his fears in the past to somehow reach out but just had received a cold, offensive, hurtful response. Consequently, he unknowingly cowered himself in a shell of his own. And now that shell is so hard to break, to enter, to reach, to penetrate. He needs his façade.

He intended to help but ends up hurting the people he loves. He intended to change but ends up disliking himself more. He intended to love but ends up being apathetically stoic.

Stoic. Indifferent. Unaffected.

Is he a coward? Nope. Confused.
Is he unloved? Nope. Misunderstood.
Does he still have hope? Of course. If he chooses to.

His hurt maybe so small compared to yours. But it is not the size that matters. He is extremely hurt as he feels it. Your careless expressions, even your happiness, is rubbing salt into an open wound.

Loving Rain Pouring Down

Please come again another day.

Cluelessly exiting the mall where I had my dinner break, I was welcomed by the whooshing wind and clattering rain. Clad in shorts, a thin blouse and a too old jacket (I almost forgot, a pair of sneakers too!), I stood there for a few minutes thinking whether to battle the weather or not. It was raining cats and dogs. Having only a spare of seven minutes that time, I ran.

My newly-bought cute umbrella should have been once more put to good use if I brought it with me when I left the office. But there was it - neatly folded and so dry.

Which was fun! Yes, fun! Fun? Fun! Because I am a rain person. Running under the rain felt so ME. I was happy. I was smiling despite getting wet and knowing that I still have four hours of work to do. Rain always makes me feel a lot better.

Do you know those movie scenes? Just look at this one:

(FYI: The movie clip is from the film "The Classic". I recommend this. I find the twist at the end unique and captivating.)

I felt like this. Just minus the guy. Carefree. Simply happy.

10.10.10

---

Spot me. Nah.

This is in my life list #13.

Sad that I wasn't able to join 10.10.10 Run For Pasig River. Seems fun, challenging and truly a worthwhile event! Kudos to all who made this possible.

Hoolahoopers in a fun run?! That's a hell of a lot of fun but this actually happened in the other side of the globe. I didn't know that there is a so-called World Hoop Day. I only heard it from Karen of Chookooloonks.

Oh, I miss running and hoolahooping! ^^,

(So up next is 11.11.11 and then 12.12.12. Sad to say, there would be no more 13.13.13 or 14.14.14 and the next and next after that. Tee hee!)

So Small

.
I need help to open up, to go ahead and let the light shine through
Oh it's hard on a rainy day
I wanna shut the world out
And just be left alone
It's so easy to get lost inside
A problem that seems so big at the time
It's like a river that's so wide
It swallows me whole

Shoot Me! (30 of 52)

---
Who said it's hot in the Philippines?

I have two feet, the left and the right.
Let me show you a glimpse of my day as I go to work just after lunchtime.

Here is where I stop and wait for a jeepney. Across the road is the alley leading to our humble house.

After riding the country's undisputed public vehicle, the next stop is the "kinda" bus station. Believe me. Not all air-conditioned buses keep you from inconvenience.

Next, MRT train ride. Better sit where it's shady.

Riding an FX is actually more convenient than MRT train since I can avoid the tedious walks by doing so. I choose the train because it is a lot faster and cheaper. Consequently, I have to go on foot here.

And here.

And here.

Good thing trees are ever created to give shade to humankind. Oh, God, I thank Thee for Thy shade!

The sky is clear. I just hope the sunshine is not that always hot. Whew! Finally, I am almost there. Time to work after a weary walk. See ya!

Who said it's hot in the Philippines?

Ginormous List: 100+ Things

--
If it is not because of Karen of Chookooloonks, I wouldn't have been blogging about this.

I had second thoughts on writing down another to-do list. You see, there was this time when a dear friend and I decided to write down our plans for the next five years. That was on November of 2005. One more month and then comes our deadline. As it is turning out, only one of the things I wrote down is coming to reality. I can't help it but envy that friend of mine who is having a hell of fun in her job abroad. I felt like I couldn't bear setting a goal and eventually failing again in the end.

But I find myself doing it one more time. Karen helps me shake off my pessimistically inclined thoughts and is like a pat on my shoulder saying, "Give it a go." as I read and reread her advice on creating one's own life list.

It is not about always having big plans. Simple dreams are welcome such as having to taste blueberry yogurt. Satisfaction counts more than success.

Goal-setting is about adding moments of joy rather than adding moments of guilt.

It is more about recognizing and seizing opportunities and not about completing everything in the list.

Damn it!!! It is about having fun as one is going through life.

Hence, this list.

Not to mention, this is a challenging, inspiring and truly worthwhile
centurial post! HURRAY!
  1. have a shot of myself that looks something like this

Oooops. Obviously there aren't 100 things here. YET.

Coming up with 100 items shouldn't necessarily be done in one sitting. I just have to make a goal of coming up with 100 and there is no need to beat myself up if it doesn't happen right away -- also one of the Chookooloonks advice. That said, this post will be updated from time to time and you are very much welcome to go back and check it out. ^^,

As how Karen ended her post:

So! There you have it: all you need to go write your own life list. So go on -- grab a cup of your favourite beverage, a piece of paper (or notebook or journal or, hell, your blog), and get started.
Go inspire yourself.

LIFE, HERE I AM AND HERE I COME! Heaven knows what, how and when I'll be scratching things off this life list. Note to self:
It is about having fun as one is going through life!!!!!!!!

Britney, Earplugs and Do Re Mi

---
One Saturday night when no one was left in the house but my little sister and me, a movie marathon unexpectedly came to pass.

Britney

Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Squekquel: Alvin and his bros met a rival group of female chipmunks known as The Chipettes (rivals-slash-love interests). The chipmunk cuties are not really mean, rude or something like that. They are just ordinary hopefuls who dared to make themselves known in the showbiz industry through the help, unfortunately, of Ian. Alvin, Simon and Theodore's fraternal love and struggles touched me. Also adding to the cuteness, Britney and her sisters, Eleanor and Janette, not only entertained but regaled me throughout the movie. Britney, the chippette, rocks!

Earplugs

Breakfast at Tiffany's: a classic movie starring the ever classic beauty, Audrey Hepburn. Although I couldn't follow some of the dialogues, Audrey's style, charm and glamour glued my eyes to the screen. Holly's earplugs are delightfully dainty!

Do Re Mi

Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do: a triangle love story involving Hee-won, Eun-gyu and Jun-won with, as they say, bittersweet elements. I couldn't help it but feel irritated and bad for Hee-won. I'm happy to find a Korean movie wherein the main character didn't pass away nor stay sick in the end. LOVE the twist in the story.

I Didn't Know...

---
that the title "The Boy Next Door" has been used by several authors in varied novels such as these:

(click each image for its respective synopsis and reviews)

Most are romantic light-reading books and there is one which is a true crime book. Actually, I just finished reading one of them. Make a guess: which one is it?

I also didn't know that there is an album cover and more than one film under the same title.

"The Boy Next Door" album cover by Stacey Kent

Not Empty Nor Full

Based on my quiz answers:
Your happiness teeters between Half Full and Half Empty. Seldom is your glass overflowing with estatic emotions, but your glass is never empty either.
I found the quiz here and the picture here.

Invictus by William Ernest Henley

I remember reciting this poem in high school.
This has been my favorite ever since.
I think my mom liked it too.
I reminisce her reciting the last two lines
of this poem when I was a child.
This line I just no longer recite:
"I thank whatever gods may be"
That's because the God I know now is
not just one of the many gods I've heard.

You may see the poem here.

Bawal Bawal Ka Dyan a.k.a. Why Not?

--
I love Nescafe commercials! And here is another one to like.

My little sister and I have ourselves tons of laughter because of it. Nope. The commercial isn't a comedy. It's only that Aissa finds me goofy as I mimic the girl in the ad. Haha!

Bawal bawal ka dyan. So what kung gabi? Magkakape ako kung gusto ko, 'no. Decaffeinated naman kaya pwede pa rin akong makatulog. Sarap kaya. Try mo!

Throughout their way home and till bedtime, the older sister mentions a lot of "dont's" to her younger sister which most Filipinos are superstitious about. The younger sibling just nods or listens to things being told her but then opposes when refrained from drinking coffee before bedtime.

I tried to have its English translation >_< :
Why not? So what if I'm having coffee at night? I'll drink coffee if I want to. Don't worry. It's decaffeinated. Why don't you try it?

Sounds like I don't give it justice...hehehe....just watch the ad. It's cute!

Realness

---
Help me be true to myself.
Help me be true to You.
Help me be true to others.

As I see my true self, help me to accept and love it and live it for You.

Remind me every second of my life that everything is all about You and what you've done especially when I see something bad or good about myself.

I surrender to You my self-centeredness and self-righteousness. Control me that I may extend my concern further to others especially to my family. Help, guide and cause me to express myself truthfully whether it would be pleasing or not.

Help me to participate in life and not to be forever an audience. Help me face and fight my fears. Keep reminding me of the reasons why I should be out of my comfort zone and why I should keep moving on.

Always bring me back to Your Word.

My Bell Lyre and Me Reunited!

---
A little tired and sleepy, I reached for my little red notebook and the hymnal. And then, I began jotting down the F A C E and Every Good Boy Does Fine notes of a favorite hymn. (At last, I was already doing what I have decided to do countless days ago.) A few minutes later, I was already playing the hymn "In My Heart There Rings a Melody" on my bell lyre. Some notes were off-key and I got a little irritated by it. Soon enough I finally got to enjoy the music even with little off-key notes on the side.

I still remember the time when Pa and I bought my bell lyre almost two decades ago. I used to play it when I was in elementary, especially in the third grade. Good thing, it was still with me till now and got to play it again after so many years.

I actually planned to refresh my bell lyre skills long time ago. Procrastination and mood swings didn't keep out of my way, that's why. Anyway, now I am happy that I finally did it! I just hope that I could do it more often and play various hymns on my bell lyre by heart.
